We decided last week that it was high time we got out of the house as a family and did something fun. What could be more fun on a lovely spring day than a train ride and a walk through beautiful flower gardens?
We surprised the kids with a Front Runner Train ride to Salt Lake City. (The last time we had ridden this train was when it had first opened and they were offering free rides. Then it was so crowded that we couldn't really enjoy it.) While we waited for our train I learned that empty railroad tracks can be stared at for a long time and not bring on boredom.
After a nice relaxing ride into town we boarded a trax train to take us to Temple Square. As we watched marathon runners along the street we reveled in the fact that we didn't have to worry about road closures or parking.
We headed toward the Lion House for lunch and were surprised to learn the Observation Deck in the Church Office Building was open on a Saturday. As we rode up those very fast elevators all the memories of my time working there came back. It was fun to see what changes had been made and to reminisce.
Afterward we had lunch at the Lion House, which the kids wouldn't eat much of. They each received a balloon as we left. We then went and toured the Beehive House where Josh looked at the sitting room and asked where the TV was. We enjoyed a walk around Temple Square looking at all the weddings (we were told that last saturday they had 62 weddings) and flowers and fountains.
By 3 pm we were all tired so we headed for the trains and went home. What a great day!
